Internship Opportunities

The McLean County Chamber of Commerce is currently seeking interns for the Marketing & Public Relations Department for the 2017 summer semester! Interns will be given the opportunity to be involved in the creation and implementation of a variety of marketing materials, manage social media accounts, website management, photography and videography at events, and more. This opportunity is unpaid and requires a consistent schedule with a minimum of 9 hours/2 day work week. A full list of skills and requirements can be found below.

2017 Summer Internship Program Description

 

Term:  Summer Semester (with opportunity to extend)

Departments: Marketing & Public Relations

Internship Coordinator: Jonathan Strupek, Marketing & Public Relations Manager

 

SKILLS REQUIRED

- Great communication skills (in person, phone, e-mail)

- Schedule availability to do some work outside the office and attend occasional events

- Willingness to learn and improve on new skills

 

DETAILS

Duties Include:

- Managing Chamber social media accounts (content creation and scheduling)

- Assist in maintaining the Chamber and Make Your Money Mean More website

- Sell advertising for Chamber communications by soliciting member businesses

- Assist in writing press releases for events

- Create marketing materials for Chamber events

- All other duties as assigned

Evaluation methods:

- Correspondence with staff supervisor via email and in-person

- Midterm and final status report with supervisor

- Completion of university provided papers and evaluation forms (if applicable)

Expected workdays:

- Completion of 9 hours per week/2 day minimum

- Supervisor will coordinate schedule after reviewing class schedule

 

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

- Gain an understanding of the daily functions of a Chamber of Commerce

- Experience in maintaining a company’s social media pages

- Practice writing skills across different mediums

- Understanding and/or learning the basics of maintaining a website

- Teaching and developing sales skills by selling advertising for different Chamber communications

- Learning or developing basic graphic design skills
