Chamber Business Agenda

The Government Affairs committee has identified seven (7) areas of focus for inclusion on the Chamber’s standing Legislative Business Agenda.  

 

  • Taxes & Fees
  • Labor/Employment
  • Transportation & Infrastructure
  • Education
  • Agriculture
  • Healthcare
  • Intergovernmental Cooperation

 

Taxes & Fees:

The McLean County Chamber of Commerce supports a competitive and fair tax climate that promotes and fosters economic growth through private sector expansion.

 

2010 Areas of Concentration:

Federal:

  • Consumer Financial Protection Act

State of Illinois:

  • A proposed tax on the service industry.
  • A proposed Corporate Income Tax increase.
  • A proposed Individual Income Tax increase.

 

Labor/Employment:

The McLean County Chamber of Commerce supports legislation that emphasizes Free Enterprise.  The Chamber believes the Free Market System is the most efficient and profitable way to conduct business. 

           

2010 Areas of Concentration:

  • Pension Reform
  • Employ Free Choice Act; “Card Check”

 

Transportation & Infrastructure:

The McLean County Chamber of Commerce believes transportation and infrastructure is vital to the region’s economic growth.  The McLean County area is at a cross-section of 3 major interstates and centrally located within the State of Illinois.  The Chamber strives to promote commerce through our transportation systems; which include the Central Illinois Regional Airport and public transportation including Amtrak and Bloomington-Normal Public Transportation System.

 

 

2010 Area of Concentration:

  • Reauthorization of the Transportation Bill in Congress
    • SAFETEA-LU
  • High Speed Rail – Chicago to St. Louis Corridor 

 

Education:

The McLean County Chamber of Commerce supports investment in quality education.  The Chamber advocates consistent and ongoing communication and collaboration, creating and expanding cost-effective opportunities for training, and building partnerships with education providers.  The future success of our children is dependent on the quality, rigor, and relevance of the education offered in our schools. 

 

Agriculture:

The McLean County Chamber of Commerce supports the enhancement, profitability, and efficiencies of agricultural operations and agribusiness, as well as protects the rights of landowners and business owners to operate their business in a competitive environment.

 

Healthcare:

The McLean County Chamber of Commerce will work to educate our membership on the complex actions Congress is working towards on the Healthcare issue.  The Chamber will rely on the United States Chamber of Commerce to be our VOICE on this issue.  If need be, the McLean County Chamber of Commerce will actively work on our members behalf to provide healthcare at an affordable cost.

  • National Healthcare Reform

 

Intergovernmental Cooperation:

The McLean County Chamber of Commerce strongly supports increased collaboration and sharing of resources between local units of government to increase the cost effectiveness and the efficiency of service delivery to taxpayers and business.

 

2010 Areas of Concentration:

  • Main Street Corridor Project
    • Chartered Task Force to provide new recommendations to the Main Street Commission.
