Girls on the
Run of Central Illinois has elected a new member to the board of directors for
2018-2019. Lauren Lurkins will serve
a three-year term and bring her unique skills, talents, and perspectives to the
growing organization.

This is the
first appointment of a director from the McLean County area and follows Girls
on the Run expansion to serve McLean and DeWitt counties. Girls on the Run
partners with local schools to provide the fun and effective afterschool
program to small teams of 3rd-8th grade girls. The
intentional curriculum is designed to enhance girls’ social, emotional, and
physical skills to successfully navigate life experiences.

Lauren Lurkins
is the Director of Natural and Environmental Resources at the Illinois Farm
Bureau and lives in Bloomington, Illinois. Lauren first became attracted to
Girls on the Run because the mission and goals of the program really resonated
with her. She remembers reading about national founder Molly Barker’s
experience as a young girl – being very confident and then starting to be put
in the ‘girl box’ – and really having a flash back to those same feelings.  She believes in giving young girls the skills
and confidence to navigate through that time.

in Girls on the Run transforms girls’ lives by helping them increase their
self-confidence, develop healthy relationships, and feel good about themselves,
inside and out. Those interested in starting a team at their school or would
like to volunteer as a Coach should contact the Girls on the Run office at
