The Illinois Symphony Orchestra’s upcoming Holiday Pops in the Heartland concert will feature a rare live performance with orchestra soundtrack of Raymond Briggs’ classic animated film The Snowman. Performances are Friday, December 14, 2018 at 7:30 PM at Bloomington Center for the Performing Arts in Bloomington and Saturday, December 15, 2018 at 7:30 PM at the Sangamon Auditorium in Springfield. Tickets are available online at ilsymphony.org.
Originally published in 1978, The Snowman, created and illustrated by Raymond Briggs, has become one of the world’s most popular children’s books, selling over 8.5 million copies worldwide. In 1982, the book was adapted into a 26-minute animated film that has turned into a holiday classic and is back by popular demand after a successful ISO premiere last season. These performances feature Boy Soprano Harrison Faulkner of Springfield.
This festive family concert also includes such Holiday favorites as Sleigh Ride, Parade of the Wooden Soldiers, Skaters Waltz, The Nutcracker, Chanukah Suite and more.
The ISO, led by Music Director Ken Lam, is joined by area performing arts groups including the Bloomington-Normal Youth Symphony, Twin Cities Ballet, Sangamon Valley Youth Symphony, Springfield Ballet Company, and Springfield Youth Performance Group.
Fun, holiday craft activities for children will begin at 6:30 p.m. each night and the first 50 children participating will receive a complimentary copy of The Snowman.
