Mitch Houska

As a Bloomington-Normal native, Mitch has a deeply rooted passion for our community.

Throughout his formative years at Thomas Metcalf Elementary and University High School, Mitch learned about the wanderlust of our local youth. While working at Afni, Inc. and State Farm, Mitch came to appreciate the opportunities that our local business community had to offer for himself. After his sojourns living in Washington D.C., Indianapolis, DeKalb, and Peoria, it was an easy decision to make Bloomington-Normal his home. A desire to help build connections within our community and educate our youth about the opportunities that exist here in McLean County were driving forces which led Mitch to the McLean County Chamber of Commerce.

Earning his Bachelor of Liberal Arts Degree in Psychology at Northern Illinois University, Mitch plans to get his master’s degree in Industrial and Organizational Psychology to be able to further support the organizations which make McLean County such a great place to do business. Mitch has supplemented his education with classes at both Heartland Community College, and Illinois State University.

Mitch acquired a familiarity with overseeing organizational programs while supervising the programming at Butler’s Health & Recreation Complex, and through his prior work serving to support the projects within Illinois’ 13th Congressional District. Mitch joined the Chamber as our Communications and Programs Coordinator in April before moving on to his current role as Programs Manager in August, where he now oversees the Bloomington-Normal Young Professionals, and Leadership McLean County divisions of the Chamber.

If you are interested in connecting with young professionals, developing your leadership skills, hosing a Business Before or Business After Hours networking event, gifting New Resident Welcome Kits to your employees, or are interested in joining the Small Business Roundtable, Solopreneurs, Manufacturers Council, or Agri-Business Council, Mitch would love to hear from you.

Mitch enjoys living in the same community as his Grandparents, Parents, and Brother & Sister-in-Law. Mitch is a member of the Bloomington-Normal Sunrise Rotary, and Friends of Pub Club Rotary where he finds additional ways to contribute to his home. If you can’t find Mitch at our programming events, he is likely out fishing Lake Bloomington, walking Constitution Trail, volunteering at Safe Harbor Shelter and the Boys and Girls Club, campaigning for local elected officials, or performing a thorough and unrequested inspection of our local breweries.
